Terms of Service
OpenNVR Cam and the OpenNVR project · Last updated: 10 July 2026
1. Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the OpenNVR Cam mobile application (the "App") and related OpenNVR software and websites (together, the "Software"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. What OpenNVR is
OpenNVR is self-hosted, local-first software. The App is a client that connects to an OpenNVR server that you operate and control. We do not host your server, store your video, or provide a cloud service for the App. You are responsible for your own server, cameras, network, storage, and the data they hold.
3. License
The OpenNVR software is open source and provided under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0). Your use, modification, and distribution of the source are governed by that license. The App is provided free of charge for use with your own OpenNVR server. Trademarks and brand names remain the property of their owners.
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use the App and OpenNVR lawfully. You are solely responsible for complying with all laws that apply to video surveillance, audio recording, privacy, data protection, and notice/consent in your jurisdiction — including where and whom you may record. Do not use the Software to infringe others' rights or to record people unlawfully.
5. Your data and privacy
The App communicates only with the server you configure. Data handling is described in our Privacy Policy. Because your data lives on your own devices and server, you are responsible for securing, backing up, and lawfully processing it.
6. No warranty
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. OpenNVR is not a monitoring, alarm-response, or life-safety service and must not be relied upon as one. We do not guarantee that recording, detection, alerts, or streaming will be accurate, uninterrupted, or error-free.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall the OpenNVR project, its contributors, or maintainers be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, footage, profits, or security, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Software — even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
8. Third-party services
If you connect the App to third-party services (for example a push-notification provider, a VPN, or cameras and models you supply), those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, which are your responsibility.
9. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
10. Contact
Questions about these Terms can be sent to contact@opennvr.org, or via the project at opennvr.org.
