Logs & Forensics

Logs & Forensics is the investigation workbench for searching, filtering, and exporting logs. You’ll find it under Security & Network → Logs & Forensics in the sidebar.

[!NOTE] This tab requires the audit.view permission (the same permission that gates the governance Audit Logs record).

Logs & Forensics tab

[!WARNING] This tab is a placeholder in the current build. The page shows its heading — “Search, filter, and export logs for investigations.” — and a Coming soon… panel. The forensic search/filter/export tooling described below is not yet wired up. For an audit trail you can use today, see Audit Logs (below).

What this tab is for

Logs & Forensics is intended to be the free-text, investigation-oriented log surface: pull together system, camera, and detection logs, narrow them by time and keyword, and export the result for an investigation or hand-off. It is distinct from the governance audit record.

Logs & Forensics vs. Audit Logs

OpenNVR keeps two separate log surfaces — don’t confuse them:

Logs & Forensics (/logs) Audit Logs (/audit-logs)
Sidebar group Security & Network Governance
Purpose Free-text investigation across system/camera/detection logs The immutable who-did-what compliance record
Status Placeholder (Coming soon) Live
Permission audit.view audit.view

[!TIP] Until Logs & Forensics ships, use Audit Logs for the record of user actions (logins, config changes, camera provisioning, deletions), and Compliance & Reports for the camera-access audit log and CSV export.
